Grey Lynn Toy Library
We are a small non-profit Toy Library that lends toys out to local families. We are looking for a friendly, responsible, confident team member to help us run the library.
You will need to be comfortable using a computer and will be trained to use our library computer system and procedures. It would be great if you had an interest in the development of young children, but if not, you will need a good tolerance for them playing around you!

This job involves:
- Sole charge setting up and packing down the toy library (this will include lifting some big toys into high cupboards with a step ladder)
- Issuing and returning toys
- Some cash handling, recording of payments, and managing fines.
- Welcoming new members and assisting with new member enquiries.
- Keying in new toys and keeping our library up to date.
- Tidying shelves & toy trolleys
In this role you will be engaging in regular conversations with library members, so excellent communication skills are a must. Previous administration or retail experience are valuable, but your personal characteristics are the most important and could be demonstrated in other ways. E.g. team leadership experience, sole charge experience, organisational skills, etc.
This is an important role – if the librarian doesn’t turn up, our library can’t open and this will disappoint our families and children. While we have an active committee who will often be there to help (or step in if there is an emergency), you will need to be comfortable taking sole charge of the library once trained. You will be the toy library’s only paid employee.
Location: St Columba Church Hall, 92 Surrey Crescent, Grey Lynn, Auckland 1021.
Hours: Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 9:15 – 11:45 (approximately 6 hours weekly, including admin). Additional hours may be requested for training purposes, or when the Toy Library undertakes a spring-clean or stock-take. We are open from early February to early December each year, and closed on public holidays, long weekends, and school holidays.
Pay: $27 per hour (inclusive of any GST if applicable).
