The Grey Lynn Toy Library offers an exciting Summer Toy Hire service for members. Enjoy ride-on toys, outdoor play equipment, and large toys to enjoy all season long.

For just $5–$10 per toy, you can keep the fun going even while the library is closed. It’s a great way to keep kids active and entertained—and every hire helps us fund new toy purchases and cover operational costs for the year ahead.

Bookings open each November, and our most-loved toys get snapped up fast—so be quick!

Terms and Conditions

  • Most toys cost $10 to hire, or $5 for small toys. Payment must be made prior to taking any toys.
  • To reserve a toy, place a hold on it in SETLS. Check your position in the Holds page of your account – if you’re not first in the queue, you’re too late.
  • All Summer Toys will be made available in the “S” and “SP” categories in SETLS – please only place holds on these toys – they have “SUMMER HIRE” in the name!
  • Members can reserve up to 5 toys from category S and only 1 toy from category SP
  • Summer Toy Hire is only available to those whose membership lasts throughout the Summer holidays, through till the end of February. Members must renew before placing holds on any toys
  • Toys must be collected on either Wednesday 4th Dec 2024 or Saturday 7th Dec 2024
  • Toys must be returned in the first week of February – we reopen on Saturday 1st Feb 2025
  • We have deliberately chosen large toys without small parts for Summer Toy Hire. However, if a toy you want over summer is not available in category S or SP, contact us and we may be able to add it for you
  • Be kind to other members and only place holds on toys you actually want over the Summer – non collection of reserved toys may incur a fine.
  • Please look after the toys! If they are lost, or returned unusable or with significant damage, you will be charged a replacement fee relative to the age and condition of the toy as per our usual Terms and Conditions

How to Place a hold

Here’s an example Summer Toy in SETLS – note it’s in category “S” and has SUMMER HIRE in the name. Current holds tells you how many holds you have outstanding – you’re allowed 6 in total over Summer.

If you look at the toy Status you can see this Summer Toy already has 1 hold, so try another!

All members have a Holds screen – note your position in the queue for each toy. If you’re not number 1, you’re too late – although if the toy doesn’t get collected you may be able to take it – we’ll be in touch.
