At the Grey Lynn Toy Library, we offer a range of membership options to suit your family’s needs and lifestyle. You’re welcome to browse our full toy collection before deciding to join.

Our friendly Toy Librarian is always available during opening hours to answer questions and help you choose the right membership. Better yet, your membership can be processed on the spot, so you can start borrowing toys straight away and enjoy the benefits from day one.

Full Membership – $205 for a 12-month membership

You pay one subscription fee for a year’s membership which allows you to:

  • borrow up to 6 toys per visit from our selection of over 1000 toys
  • a standard 3-week loan period, renewable for up to 6 weeks online
  • to hire any toys, without restrictions on type or size of toy, with no additional cost (excluding our Party Hire chairs, tables, cake moulds and bubble machine)

Rostered Membership – $115 for a 12-month membership ($90 discount)

Rostered members must complete three ‘rostered duties’ per year. This involves coming into the library during opening hours and helping us collect toy returns, organise shelves, and pack away toys. These duties are a fantastic way to see all the toys on offer and meet other people in your community. At the end of your year’s membership, if you’ve not completed these you will be charged $30 per missed duty.

Community Service card (CSC) Membership – $85 for a 12-month membership ($120 discount)

CSC members must also complete three rostered duties as per the Rostered Membership above. However, if you feel you would be unable to volunteer, there is an option to pay $110 for a year’s membership instead.

Temporary Membership – $30 for 3 weeks plus a $50 deposit

This is a great option for families who are only in Auckland for a short time. Three toys can be borrowed at once.  Other temporary options are available – please email us for details.

Rules and conditions of hire

  • Please count and check your toy pieces against the bag label before you check them out of the library.
  • You are responsible for returning the toys clean and dry, and for taking care of them when at your home.
  • If you are late back with your toys you will be charged an overdue fine of $2 per toy, per week.
  • If you lose a piece or break a part of a toy you will be charged between $2 and $10 depending on the size of the missing piece.  If the toy is lost or no longer usable you will be charged a replacement fee relative to the age and condition of the toy. If you find a missing piece that we have charged you for, we will gladly give you your money back!
  • If you lose or damage one of the “zippit” or “stashit” toy storage bags you will be asked to pay their replacement cost (minimum $30).
